Los Angeles International Airport Administrative Office and Staff Relocation

Los Angeles, CA

RAW International provided design services for 350,000 square feet of landside and airside operations, security checkpoints, departmental relocation, and deferred maintenance throughout the Los Angeles International Airport. The project entailed the short-term and long-term relocation of 1,500 employees in fifteen Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) departments, with minimal disruption to airport operations. The functional alignment of these departments combined with security requirements merited placement in a centralized location with a singular controlled access point for visitors in the existing Administration West Building.

In addition to the departmental adjacency matrix and stacking plan, RAW conducted a parking/traffic study to maximize parking and reconcile vehicular and pedestrian circulation.  Parking spaces adjacent to the lobby were eliminated and replaced with landscape berms and bollards, which maintain the required vehicular “stand-off” security distance while enhancing the pedestrian approach. The glass storefront system, which supports a dramatic canopy in the shape of a jetliner wing, infuses design excellence into this primary entrance.
