Complete programming, design and construction services were
performed for the Learning Resource Center for Compton Community
College. The two-story 44,768 sq. ft. building houses a stack
area on the first floor along with study rooms and art galleries.
On the second floor, there are staff offices and lounge, and
computer rooms. The unique design of the Learning Resource
Center is achieved by utilizing an intricate structural system
consisting of steel moment resistant frames at key locations
throughout the building to resist lateral movement and these
frames are supported by grade beams, spread footings and a
raised slab on compacted fill and under slab drainage system.
The roof of the stacks and reading area and
central lobby is supported by curved trusses fabricated with
8" diameter tube steel. The exterior glass both horizontal
and vertical will be blue green glass supplied with a solar
reflective screen. The roof will be a combination of glass
with solar reflective screen, standing seam metal roofing
translucent panels.
